Minamino To Start, Jota And Origi On The Bench: Liverpool’s Predicted XI To Face Aston Villa

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will return to Anfield in the opposing dugout when he takes charge of his Aston Villa side this afternoon.

It’s likely to be a strange occasion but the Reds need to stay focused on getting the three points in order to maintain their title challenge.

Alisson Becker will start in goal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Roberton likely to be named in the fullback positions after being rested against AC Milan midweek. Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are expected to return in the centre of defence.

In midfield, Fabinho, captain Jordan Henderson and Thiago will be recalled, but manager Jurgen Klopp now has other options with Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all available.

Things are not so promising up front, though. Diogo Jota has a knock and may not be risked. Roberto Firmino is working his way back to fitness after a hamstring injury but won’t be ready to start, while Divock Origi has fatigue so he may only make the bench.

It means Takumi Minamino may get a rare chance in the league. The Japanese international could line up on the left-wing, with Sadio Mane through the middle and Mo Salah coming in off the right flank.

Liverpool’s Predicted XI To Play Aston Villa:

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Mane, Minamino
