Liverpool don’t have the financial resources to sign Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez or Leicester’s Youri Tielemans this summer, according to journalist Neil Jones.
Goal‘s Reds correspondent did, however, claim that the Merseyside club do “like” Chiesa but the “ship has sailed” in terms of being able to afford the Italian international:
Frustration growing among Liverpool fans, as it seems to do in every transfer window.
Still need two more in, for me, but will they get them?#LFC

When it came to Niguez and Tielemans, Jones was equally dismissive, suggesting that the two players are outside of Liverpool’s price range, both in terms of transfer fees and wages.
The journalist did not offer any suggestions for possible alternative targets, suggesting quite ominously that, even though the club need to sign a midfielder and striker, it is possible there will be no further incomings.
Out of the three players mentioned, Niguez appears to be the one that is still the likeliest signing, despite Jones’ protestations. Fabrizio Romano has stated that both Liverpool and Chelsea are keen on the 26-year-old, while the Reds have been linked with the player almost daily in the Spanish media.
