Neville Lauds Liverpool’s Fabinho As A “Top Player”

Anfield Stadium

TV pundit and ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville said he realised that Liverpool midfielder Fabinho was a top quality player after his performance against the Red Devils last week.

The Brazilian created the first goal for Sadio Mane with a delightfully weighted chipped through ball, but Neville wasn’t only impressed with his passing, but his game as a holding midfield player:

“Last weekend against Manchester United he was fantastic. What I liked about him was sometimes you see a defensive midfielder and they play horizontally. He actually moved up the pitch.

“His pass for the first goal was absolutely fantastic, cut United open. Last week was the first time I saw him put in a performance where I thought ‘this looks like a top player.'”

Fabinho grabbed his second assist for the Reds on Friday night, cutting back from the byline for Mo Salah to score the opening goal against Wolves at Molineux.

He played alongside captain Jordan Henderson in what manager Jurgen Klopp describes as “two-sixes,” and there’s no doubt that the 25-year-old has looked very assured playing in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

The £40m summer signing from Monaco has had to wait for his chance this campaign, but he has now firmly established himself as a first team regular for  matches.
