Neville Makes Champions League Prediction As He Assesses Liverpool’s Top 4 Chances

Gary Neville says Liverpool are unlikely to turn around their two-goal deficit in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.

The Sky Sports pundit watched the Reds come from a goal down against Aston Villa to win on Saturday, but he thinks their poor home performances mean a famous European night at Anfield is not on the cards.

Neville believes that manager Jurgen Klopp will focus on getting his team back into the top four, ahead of the likes of Chelsea and West Ham, rather than putting everything on the line against Real:

“I think they’re going to go out of the Champions League. I might be wrong, but it would seem now that they’ve got the top four to concentrate on. If they get into the top four at the end of it, it would be a half-decent result for them.”

One thing that Neville has not taken into consideration is Real Madrid’s injury situation. Lucas Vazquez and Fede Valverde have joined Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal on the treatment table, while Raphael Varane will be missing due to the virus.

A weakened backline means the Reds will likely get on the scoresheet on Wednesday but the main issue, as has been the case for many months, is whether they can keep out their opponents.
