Neville Makes Liverpool/Chelsea Comparison As He Makes Title Claim

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville thinks Liverpool face an uphill task in their fight with Chelsea for the Premier League title this campaign.

While he still believes the Reds are a top team, the former Manchester United defender doesn’t feel they are the same side that won the Champions League and league title in back-to-back seasons. In contrast, he sees Chelsea as a team that will only get better and better.

“This Chelsea team will challenge for the title. I can’t see any way they won’t Of course, they can get injuries but look at the bench and forget the first-team. They seem to have everything. At this moment in time, I do believe Liverpool aren’t the team of a few years ago, even though they’re very good.”

There is a sense that Neville is basing his opinion on the fact that Liverpool failed to break down Chelsea when the Blues had ten men for the entire second half of the 1-1 draw at Anfield last month.

While it is not entirely unfair to make your assessment on the back of such a game between two title contenders, it must be pointed out that it was still early in the season.

Liverpool have shown that when they get a bit of momentum behind them, they are very difficult to stop, and it will be interesting to find out whether Neville still has the same opinion about the Reds if they are still in the mix by March.
