Liverpool have joined the race for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, according to Le10 Sport. The French publication claims that the Reds are weighing up a move for the 20-year-old in January or at the end of the season.

Reports in the UK have suggested that the Frenchman is poised to pick between Chelsea and Manchester United before the transfer window closes, with Arsenal having withdrawn their interest in the player. However, the involvement of Liverpool could change things.

Soumare has been compared to Paul Pogba by some sections of the media, but he has more in common with N’Golo Kante, having been employed by Lille in a holding midfield role.

The France Under 21 international has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring no goals and contributing one assist. He moved on a free transfer from PSG in 2017 and has gone on to play 66 games for Lille over the past two and a half years.
