Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes the Reds would only consider selling Sadio Mane if they are able to sign Tim Werner from RB Leipzig in the summer.
Mane has been linked with a £140m move to Real Madrid in recent days, and speaking out on whether his former club should consider accepting such an offer for the Senegalese international, Nicol replied:
“That’s only any good if you bring in Timo Werner. Unfortunately, there aren’t many [players like Werner] around. What if Werner wants to go elsewhere? If you’re going to get £140 million for Sadio Mane and you have someone like Timo Werner available, then I think you can take the chance.”
Werner is believed to be on the Reds’ radar, and the player himself has already spoken of his interest in a move to Anfield, along with Manchester United and Manchester City.
However, Real’s interest in Mane certainly hasn’t been backed up with a former offer and it is still very much a hypothetical scenario at this point in time.
Liverpool would likely be extremely reluctant to let the 27-year-old leave anyway, considering his excellent form over the past two seasons. The forward has scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 38 appearances this campaign.
