Liverpool could sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara for as little as €30m (£27m) this summer, according to reports in the French media.
The 29-year-old’s contract expires in 2021, with the player keen on making the move away from Germany. Bayern have reportedly set an initial asking price of €50m (£45m) but with the player now within the final twelve months of his time at the Allianz Arena, the Bundesliga side may have to sell for a lot less.
Fans on Twitter have been debating whether the Reds would consider snapping up Thiago if he is available relatively cheaply:
He's 29 not a fsg signing

Similar profile and style to Naby Keita, don't think it'll happen

For that price its a steel but cant see us spending even 27m on a player this window

I wish it were true. Unfortunately, it’s not. Klopp will make a decision to either get a body in to replace Lallana or rely on youth players making the step up. He hasn’t decided yet.

Although I would love it I just can’t see us signing anyone…

A daft one imo, he doesn’t suit the way we play, not the youngest and still would cost more than we’ll part with.

His age does suggest that the Merseyside club would not consider the Spanish international as a potential transfer target. Under FSG, Liverpool have rarely signed older players who have no re-sale value.
Unless they wait until January to sign Thiago on a pre-contract agreement, it does seem unlikely that the midfielder will be arriving at Anfield.
