“Not Seen As Serious…” Journalist Weighs In On Whether Liverpool Could Snap Up Chelsea Ace

Chelsea don’t see Liverpool as a major threat to their plans to keep Mason Mount at Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Reliable sources have suggested that the Reds and Juventus are monitoring the England international’s contract situation, but Bailey says the Blues don’t believe the player would consider a move to Anfield at the moment:

“Whilst it is no surprise that we have seen rivals linked like Liverpool – at this stage it is not seen as serious. However, if in a few months time the deal is still not agreed, then Chelsea could have a real situation on their hands.”

As Bailey does point out, though, things with Mount could still change. Negotiations over a new deal were expected to be wrapped up months ago but talks still haven’t reached a successful conclusion.

It is believed that more discussions will be held in the New Year but, if they can’t find an agreement, Chelsea would have to consider selling the midfielder next summer. Mount’s current deal expires in 2024 so they could run the risk of losing him on a free transfer.

Whether Liverpool would be genuine contenders for Mount’s signature, though, it is debatable. Reports claim that the 23-year-old is demanding a wage of around £300,000 a week, which could price him out of a switch to Merseyside.
