Ornstein Confirms Liverpool Are ‘In The Process Of Finalising’ 34M Transfer But There Are ‘Other Suitors’

Liverpool are “in the process of finalising” a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The former BBC reporter says the Reds are expected to trigger the 21-year-old’s €40m (£34m) release clause, negating the need to negotiate with Leipzig for the player.

However, despite the transfer being at an advanced stage, it is believed that Konate does have “other suitors” which could yet scupper the club’s plans of securing the Frenchman’s signature.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been linked with the defender in recent months so Liverpool would be wise to get the deal over the line as soon as possible.

If he does make the switch to Anfield, Konate is expected to challenge for a first-team place straight away, although there will be some concerns about the player’s fitness record. The centre-half has played just nine league games this season due to ankle and muscular injuries.
