Owen Expects City To ‘Deliver A Message’ To Liverpool At The Etihad Tonight

Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen is expecting Manchester City to come right at the Reds this evening when the two teams line up at the Etihad Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already wrapped up the title and Owen feels City’s extra motivation to make sure it doesn’t happen again could see them come out on top:

“With Liverpool already champions and City still playing with Cups on their mind, this is a difficult one to call.”

“However, I think the fact that City’s season isn’t yet over may give them the edge, and I expect them to deliver a message to Liverpool that they will be right there alongside them again next season.”

In one sense, neither team has anything to play for in terms of league positions. City have pretty much sewn up second place, but you can see what Owen is getting at in terms of pride.

Pep Guardiola’s men will want to make a statement ahead of next season and Liverpool will need to make sure they don’t take the foot off the gas if they don’t want to be on the wrong end of the result.

Hopefully, Klopp will be able to motivate his players as, while there isn’t really a lot at stake for the Reds, it is still a big game.
