Owen Makes His Prediction As Liverpool Take On Ajax

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen is predicting that the Reds will come out on top when they face Ajax in the Champions League this evening.

Although the Dutch club have been on a good run since they lost to Jurgen Klopp‘s side in the reverse fixture back in October, Owen feels the return of three senior stars to the lineup could help Liverpool get over the line:

“Ajax will arrive at Anfield in confident mood. Their season has gone from strength-to-strength since these sides last met earlier in the campaign. Liverpool won that match 1-0 and the Reds will need an equally impressive performance if they are to get maximum points here.”

“Andy Robertson, Fabinho and Diogo Jota all missed last week’s defeat against Atalanta, and with the trio set to return, I think they could be the difference in narrow home win.”

Owen has gone with a 2-0 victory for Liverpool. It’s a bold prediction considering Klopp is expected to rotate some of his players again tonight. One player who wasn’t mentioned by the BT Sport pundit, Joel Matip, is likely to start but with so many injuries, it will still be a weakened team.

The Reds only need a draw tonight to qualify for the knockout stages and that will hopefully provide some extra motivation to get a result in order to ensure they can at least rest most of the first team in the last group match versus FC Midtjylland.
