Owen Predicts A Surprisingly Close Affair As Liverpool Face Everton

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen thinks the Reds won’t have everything go their own way when they face Everton at Anfield tomorrow evening.

Despite there being 26 points between the two teams, Owen doesn’t believe the Toffees will go down without a fight in the Merseyside derby:

“Safe to assume a routine home win for the Reds? Think again. The Reds will not be taking their Merseyside rivals lightly and Jurgen Klopp will be well aware that Everton could, and probably should, have taken a point at Leicester on Sunday against Liverpool’s nearest challengers in the table.”

“Liverpool, surprisingly, have yet to keep a clean sheet at Anfield so far this season, but I expect the Reds will be celebrating a 94th Merseyside derby win against the Blues.”

Derbies are always hard to predict, considering how different they are in terms of intensity and emotion compared to other games.

Even so, there is a demonstrable difference in quality between the two sides and you would expect Liverpool to come out on top, even if it is a tight affair.

Owen is right to point out that Everton gave Leicester a real game away from home on Sunday, and they certainly didn’t look like a team who are just two points above the bottom three.

You can guarantee that it will be a fiercely contested game at Anfield, and the Reds will have to be on their game to get the three points
