Owen Predicts The Result As Liverpool Take On Ajax In The Champions League

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen is expecting the Reds to come out on top when they face Ajax in their first Champions League group match this evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s men head into the game without the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip but Owen believes the Premier League champions will have too much in attack for their Dutch opponents:

“It’s a clash between two Champions League heavyweights when Ajax entertain Liverpool in Amsterdam. This should be a cracker. Liverpool were unlucky not to snatch the points on Saturday, and although I think it will be close, I can see the Reds having too much firepower for the home side.”

Owen has gone for a 2-1 win for Liverpool, which is a pretty fair prediction. You wouldn’t expect the away side to keep a clean sheet considering their lack of options in the centre of defence.

Fabinho is likely to partner Joe Gomez, but even if Ajax do manage to break through and score tonight, they are vulnerable themselves to the counterattack.

As Owen says, you can see the Reds simply outscoring Ajax but we shall have to wait and see whether that turns out to be the case.
