Oxlade-Chamberlain – ‘Kane has proven he is world class’

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has England striker Harry Kane has proven he is world class with his performance so far at the World Cup.

Kane is the tournament’s current top scorer having scored five in the Three Lion’s opening two games.

The Spurs striker bagged a brace in England’s opener versus Tunisia, scoring a last minute header to secure a 2-1 victory for Gareth Southgate’s side.

He then followed that with a hat-trick (albeit two coming from the penalty spot) against Panama in a 6-1 victory, England’s biggest ever at a major tournament.

And Chamberlain, who missed out on a trip to Russia through an injury sustained in the Champions League semi-final for Liverpool last season, says Kane’s displays in Group G so far have proven he is amongst the best in the world.

“We all know how capable he is of scoring, but to take it to the World Cup is what all top goalscorers try to do,” he told talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham.

“He’s on a great run of form at the moment and long may that continue in this tournament.

“He’s been brilliant leading the boys, not just vocally, but with his performances, which is massive.”

England take on Belgium on Thursday in their final group game having already qualified for the last-16, and are likely to take on either Colombia, Japan or Senegal in the next round, depending on the outcome of Group H’s final round of fixtures, which also take place on Thursday.

Exciting is already building as to England’s hopes of going far in Russia given their promising two displays thus far, and Chamberlain believes the hype around the Three Lions is justified, the Liverpool star believing Southgate’s men could go all the way.

“I definitely think we have the talent, there’s no doubting that,” the Liverpool star added.

“A lot of it comes down to who turns up on the day.

“I know the team have been working massively on being resilient and hard to beat, sticking together until the end – so far the boys shown that really well.

“We’ve given ourselves the best chance and that’s all we can do.”
