Liverpool forward Mo Salah was injured playing in an African Cup of Nations qualifier for Egypt against Swaziland last night.
The 26-year-old scored an incredible goal straight from a corner in the 4-1 win but was seen limping off with what appeared to be a leg injury.
Fans on Twitter were left frustrated by Salah being injured whilst on international duty:
Hope Salah is not injured to badly!! #internationalbreaksucks #LFC #YNWA ?

I hope that Salah injury isn't serious we still lack depth in the wide areas, pointless internationals strike again ? #LFC

So tell me in a qualifier, being up 4-0 at that time you’ll sub 3 players but not your star?

This photo clarifies my point about the validity of releasing our players for international duty for irrelevant games. Salah, clearly in need of a rest to recuperate from a strenuous 17/18 season and World Cup. Klopp needs to be ruthless and declare our players unavailable #LFC pic.twitter.com/jKmUudCJda

Give the lad a rest when he returns to LFC. Let him have a week or two away with his family.

Am I the only one thinking that a minor #Salah injury now will benefit #LFC in the long run?

Salah out with a minor thigh injury.. I would play Shaqiri from start instead vs. Huddersfield! #LFC #hudliv

The injury to the winger doesn’t appear to be long-term, though. Egypt’s assistant manager Hany Ramzy said after the match that initial tests on his leg had indicated that the problem wasn’t too serious:
“[The] initial diagnosis of the medical staff of [the] Egypt national team is that Salah suffered a muscular injury. He will be examined to determine the details, but in my opinion, it is not serious.”
It remains to be seen whether Salah will be fit enough to start for the Reds after the international break. Liverpool are due to face Huddersfield next Saturday at the John Smiths’ Stadium.
If the Egyptian international doesn’t recover in time, Xherdan Shaqiri would be the likeliest to replace him in the side for the game against the Terriers.
