Premier League Clubs (Including Liverpool) Could Lose Brazil Stars For Next Round Of Fixtures

Liverpool, Chelsea, Leeds, Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City may have to do without their Brazilian players for the next round of league games, according to The Times.

The Brazilian Football Federation is refusing to back down in its confrontation with Premier League teams, who have all refused to release players who would have to quarantine on their return to the UK after international duty.

Brazil is on the British government’s “Red List” and the UK have refused FIFA’s request to provide exemptions for footballers, leading to a stalemate between club and country.

However, Brazil’s Football Federation are now expected to demand that FIFA impose their “Five Day Rule” which is detailed in Article 5 of their regulations relating to international call-ups:

“A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released pursuant to the provisions of this annexe, plus an additional period of five days.”

It means that Liverpool trio Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino will miss the Leeds game, along with Raphinha. Manchester City’s Ederson and Gabriel Jesus won’t be available for the Leicester fixture while Everton will have to do without Richarlison for the match versus Burnley. Manchester United will also lose Fred for their game against Newcastle, and Chelsea’s Thiago Silva won’t be eligible to face Aston Villa.
