Pundit Thinks Liverpool Should Pursue 24 Year Old Playmaker Who Is “Better Than Keita”

Andy Gray believes Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish should be on Liverpool’s radar. The Bein Sports pundit says he rates the 24-year-old above anyone in the Reds’ midfield at the moment:

“Jack’s 24 now and I think there is a decision coming at the end of this season. And I hate to say it, but I don’t think he’ll be there in August. If I was a coach of any of the top-six, and I include Liverpool in this, he would make the team better.”

“He is, in my opinion, better than any of Liverpool’s midfield players. I think he is better than Keita. I think he’s better than Wijnaldum.”

One important thing to note is that Grealish does not operate in Villa’s midfield. He generally plays on the left-hand-side or as a number 10 so he wouldn’t be competing with the likes of Wijnaldum, Keita or Jordan Henderson.

Instead, his likeliest competition would be with Sadio Mane, and with the Reds having also recently signed Takumi Minamino this January to strengthen the front three, a move for the Villa playmaker would be highly unlikely.

There’s no doubt that Grealish is a major talent, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently describing him as an “exceptional” player but it would be a surprise if he did move to Anfield any time soon.

Gray does suggest that Chelsea may well be another possibility for Grealish, with the pundit also rating him higher than Mason Mount:

“At Chelsea, I know they talk about Mason Mount but I think right now he’s better than Mason Mount. If he’s getting sold this summer then I guarantee you that a host of the biggest clubs will be after him.”
