RB Leipzig Manager Makes Frank Admission About Timo Werner’s Future

RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann says he is trying to convince Timo Werner that his development as a player would be best served by staying at the Bundesliga club.

The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be keen on the German international, and Nagelsmann admits there is only so much he can do in order to try and keep him:

“There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me. I show him that – he gets many chances to develop himself. I don’t know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day.”

“A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn’t feel that, it wouldn’t do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here. In the end, it is his life, his career, he can decide that. I can’t think of anything new to say to Timo.”

Werner’s head appears to have been turned by interest from abroad but Liverpool are yet to make a formal bid for the German, who has a €60m (£53.5m) release clause.

The Reds reportedly believe Leipzig are asking for too much, considering the current global situation, and it seems they will look to try and negotiate a lower fee.

Werner’s buyout clause is said to expire in two weeks so it will be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club make their move for the 24-year-old before then.
