REPORT: Club Are Open To Selling 55 Cap International Defender Following Liverpool Bid

Real Betis are keen on selling centre-back Aissa Mandi this summer due to his contract situation, according to COPE.

The Spanish radio station has claimed that Liverpool have tabled a €10m (£9m) offer for the Algerian, who has 55 caps for his country.

Mandi’s current deal at Betis expires next summer and, while the 28-year-old does have a €30m (£27m) release clause, the club accept they won’t be able to get that much for the player.

Negotiations over a new contract have stalled so the La Liga club are not willing to let the defender leave on a free transfer next year.

If Betis do accept the bid for Mandi, it would mean that most of the £11m the club received from the sale of Dejan Lovren to Zenit will be reinvested in his replacement.

There was some concern that the Reds would go into next season with just three senior centre-halves, but it does appear they are actively looking for reinforcements in that area.
