REPORT: Klopp Rejected The Chance To Sign 3 Strikers With 777 Goals Between Them

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp “flatly ruled out” moves for Tottenham’s Heung-min Son, Everton’s Richarlison and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski this summer, according to El Pais.

The Spanish publication claims the trio, who have scored 777 goals between them during their professional careers, were overlooked in favour of Darwin Nunez.

There were reportedly those at Anfield who were “perplexed” about Klopp’s decision to sign the Benfica forward ahead of the other options proposed, while one member of staff is said to have warned him that it was a “huge risk” signing the Uruguayan.

It’s fair to say that Nunez has had a mixed start to life at Anfield, having played a key role in winning the Community Shield before being sent off for violent conduct against Crystal Palace.

Whether any of the information in El Pais‘s story is accurate, though, it is debatable. The Reds would have had no chance of signing Richarlison from Everton due to the rivalry between the two clubs. Lewandowski had his heart set on a switch to Barcelona while Son is a key player for Spurs.
