Liverpool and Manchester United have looked to “intensify contacts” as they step up their attempts to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to O Jogo.
The Portuguese publication claims a transfer now looks “increasingly possible” despite the fact that Benfica remain adamant that the Argentinian international won’t be sold for a fee below his €120m (£106m) release clause.
Fernandez has spoken out about his future in recent days, stating that he is fully focused on playing for his current team, but it hasn’t stopped speculation about a potential transfer.
After putting in some standout displays for Argentina at the World Cup, elite European clubs have begun circling the 21-year-old but Benfica are holding firm on their asking price.
It has already been claimed that the Portuguese club have rejected a €100m offer for Fernandez, and if Liverpool (or United) are to secure Fernandez’s services, they will likely have to break their transfer record.
