REPORT: Liverpool Have Now Joined Chelsea In Fight To Sign La Liga Star With 66.6M Release Clause

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde is being tracked by Liverpool, according to Marca. The Madrid-based publication has backed claims that the Reds are now in the hunt for the France international.

Up until now, Chelsea have been the frontrunners for the centre-back’s signature, having tried and failed to snap him up during the summer transfer window.

Kounde reportedly agreed personal terms with the European champions at the time but Sevilla’s insistence that Thomas Tuchel’s side pay the player’s €80m (£66.6m) release clause in full led to the deal collapsing.

The Blues have been tipped to revive their interest in Kounde, but it seems Liverpool could get involved if and when the Frenchman leaves the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Whether the Reds actually need another centre-half, it is questionable. The Merseyside club signed Ibrahima Konate in the summer and also have Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez in the squad. At 23, though, Kounde could be seen as a potential long-term replacement for the likes of van Dijk or Matip.
