Liverpool are among the teams keeping tabs on AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, according to Calciomerato.it.

The Italian website say that, while Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be the frontrunners for the Portuguese international’s signature, Jurgen Klopp’s side are also in the mix, along with Manchester City and Manchester United.

Leao does have a €150m (£130m) release clause but Milan would have to sell the player for below that amount if he doesn’t agree to put pen to paper on a contract extension soon.

The 23-year-old’s current deal expires in 2024, and the Rossoneri are currently locked in talks with his representatives to try and get an agreement. However, Calciomercato claim there are a number of complications that could stop a renewal from being signed.

A significant pay rise for Leao will have to be agreed upon, while there is also debate about who will pay the €19m owed to former club Sporting Lisbon that the player is liable for. On top of that, agent Jorge Mendes is said to be demanding that the winger’s buyout fee is lowered. Liverpool will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on the situation.
