REPORT: Liverpool Midfielder Set To Turn Down Five Year Contract And Move To France

Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella will sign for Nantes and will reject a new five-year contract from the Reds in order to move to France, according to 20 Minutes.

The French newspaper says the Spaniard is expected to undergo a medical this week ahead of a switch to the Ligue One side.

Chirivella is out of contract at the end of June and so he will be available on a free transfer in July. However, Liverpool had hoped to persuade the 23-year-old into staying at Anfield.

The holding midfielder impressed in cup competitions this season, starting four matches in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, but the player seems keen to move on in order to get more first-team football.

Scottish club Rangers were also reportedly keen on Chirivella, with manager Steven Gerrard having received glowing reports about the player, but the chance to play in France’s top division is seemingly a more tempting proposition.
