REPORT: Liverpool One Of Six Teams ‘Ready’ To Make Offer For 119K A Week Midfielder

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool are “ready” to make their move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot if contract talks with his current club break down, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website says that the Frenchman’s mother, Veronique, is due to hold talks with Juve about extending his current deal beyond the end of the season.

Rabiot is currently earning €7m a season (around £119,000 a week), but he is demanding a pay rise to €10m a season, which is a figure that the Bianconeri haven’t been prepared to match up until now.

If an agreement can’t be reached, Calciomercato reports that the Reds, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are expected to make proposals of their own.

Rabiot’s availability on a free transfer does make him an attractive target, but the fact that he turns 28 in April may suggest he is a bit on the old side for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s team has the fifth-highest average age in the Premier League and it is felt that the midfield needs to be freshened up with younger players. In that regard, Rabiot would not be a very good fit.
