REPORT: Liverpool Plotting 43M Swoop For Italian International Defender

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool are ready to pay €50m (£43m) to sign Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport.fr).

The Italian international is currently in talks over extending his contract with the Nerazzurri and it remains to be seen whether the defender could be persuaded into moving to Anfield.

Bastoni is on the cusp of winning his first league title with Inter, with Antonio Conte’s side currently nine points ahead of second-place AC Milan.

With that being the case, it would be a surprise if the 22-year-old is considering leaving the San Siro, especially as Liverpool are not even guaranteed to be playing in the Champions League next season.

The Reds are believed to be ready to invest in a new centre-half this summer, but multiple reports claim that RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate is their main target. It could be the case that Bastoni’s agent is simply using the Merseyside club to get him an improved deal with Inter.
