Romano Claims Club Are “Prepared To Sell” Portuguese Star For 34M, And He’s “Appreciated” By Liverpool

Lille are willing to offload Renato Sanches for €40m (£34m) before the transfer window closes, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that while Liverpool are focused on getting rid of some fringe players, they are still very much interested in the Portuguese international:

“Once they sell some players, my feeling is something new will happen. Maybe a new striker in an attacking position, also a midfielder. Keep an eye on Renato Sanches because he is a player Liverpool always appreciated.”

“The situation is still open for Sanches if a club will jump. If there is a bid around €40m, Lille will be prepared to sell. Renato is still an option for Liverpool if and when they decide to enter the market for a midfielder.”

Arsenal have also been linked with Sanches, in addition to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but Liverpool do seem to be the club who are the most likely to make a bid for the 23-year-old.

Whether he is worth £34m, though, it is questionable. The midfielder may have turned his career around at Lille over the past couple of years but his injury record is poor.

The person Sanches would be replacing, Georginio Wijnaldum, very rarely missed a game, and you would think that sporting director Michael Edwards would be focused on signing a player who has great fitness levels and can take on the Dutchman’s workload.

With that in mind, it would be a surprise if Sanches was at the top of the club’s list of transfer targets.
