Romano Reveals Liverpool Are ‘Hopeful’ Of Agreeing Four Year Contract With 28 Year Old

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to stay at Anfield beyond the end of next season, according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable reporter claims the Reds are now “hopeful” that the Dutch international will put pen to paper on a new four-year contract, which could even be extended to five.

Wijnaldum’s current deal with Liverpool expires in 2021 and there had been concerns that the player could run down his contract with negotiations having not progressed.

It is believed that the 28-year-old wanted to be assured of regular first-team football before going into talks over a contract extension.

With those reassurances reportedly having been given, it is said that Wijnaldum will now be prepared to sign on the dotted line, with his salary not thought to be an issue.

The Dutchman is one of manager Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted players, having started 28 of Liverpool’s 29 league games so far this campaign.
