Sadio Mane speaks out over Liverpool future

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has insisted he is ‘very happy’ at Liverpool, after the player has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield to Real Madrid this summer.

Mane has been one of Liverpool’s best players since his move from Southampton in 2016, scoring 23 goals in 56 appearances for the Reds – impressive stats for a winger.

The Senegalese international scored during Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid last month, and he has been linked with a move to Madrid ever since. But the 26-year-old has downplayed rumours that he is on his way out of Anfield to join Madrid, a team he called ‘the best in the world’.

When asked by Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten whether he was moving to Real Madrid, Mane said: “I am very happy in Liverpool and my contract will last for three more years.”

Asked if he was staying in Liverpool, Mane then replied: “As I said, I’m happy in Liverpool.

“But you never know what will happen in the future. I want to win trophies, especially the Champions League.”

Mane then spoke about the Reds’ defeat to Madrid in the Champions League final, labelling Los Blancos as the best in the world.

“To be honest, this defeat was not easy to put away. The whole club worked hard for this Champions League title, but Real Madrid were the better team that day,” he said.

“We lost to the best team in the world. The defeat is but ticked off. Now it is time to play with Senegal a good and successful World Cup. That’s my whole focus.”
