Salah Makes Frank Admission About His Liverpool Future

Liverpool forward Mo Salah says the ball is very much in the club’s court in terms of how long he stays at Anfield. The Egyptian’s current deal expires in 2023 but when asked about how long he plans to remain with the Reds, the winger replied:

“Right now I can say that everything is in the hands of the club. Of course, I want to break records here and, I repeat, all the club records, but everything is in the hands of the club.”

It does seem as though Salah is seeking a contract extension, rather than angling for a move away from Merseyside, with him suggesting he has ambitions of breaking every single club record he can. He is unlikely to do that in the next two and a half years so a longer stay would be his preference.

However, Liverpool don’t tend to hand out long extensions to those in their later 20s. Salah is currently 28 but he will be 31 by the end of his current deal so the Reds will have to decide whether to hand an ageing player a lucrative new contract. That may be why when he was asked about Real Madrid and Barcelona, he didn’t completely rule out a move:

“I think Madrid and Barcelona are two top clubs. Who knows what will happen in the future, but right now I am focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool again.”

Whatever happens, though, Salah has already written his name into Anfield folklore and whenever he leaves he will be a given a warm send-off.
