Serie A Giants Concerned By ‘Worst Case Scenario’ As Liverpool Weigh Up 35M January Transfer Raid

Inter Milan are worried that they could lose Milan Skriniar if Liverpool table an offer of €40m (£35m) this month, according to InterLive.it.

The Italian website claim the Nerazzurri are anticipating the “worst case scenario” after the Reds lost Virgil van Dijk to a hamstring injury.

Initial reports suggest that the Dutchman won’t play again until the end of February, leaving manager Jurgen Klopp short of options in the centre of defence.

InterLive say that, due to Skriniar’s contract situation, Inter would be “forced ” to sell the Slovakian international if Liverpool were to make a substantial bid for the player.

Considering the centre-back’s current deal does expire at the end of the season, though, it seems unlikely that any team would spend £35m, when there is also the possibility of signing him on a pre-contract agreement.

While the Reds and other Premier League teams (such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool) would all seriously look at recruiting Skriniar on a free transfer, Paris Saint-Germain have been made strong favourites to snap up the defender next summer. Making an offer in January may, therefore, be the best decision to beat PSG to the punch.
