Serie A Giants ‘Hoping’ That Liverpool Challenge Chelsea And ‘Relaunch’ Bid For 86M Defender

Juventus are “hoping” that the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain “relaunch” themselves back into the race for Matthijs de Ligt, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

Chelsea are currently the only club who are seriously making an attempt to sign the Dutch international but, so far, they haven’t managed to come up with a satisfactory offer for the player.

The Blues are believed to be preparing a bid of between €70m (£60m) and €75m (£64.5m), plus €12m (£10.3m) in add-ons, for de Ligt but such an offer is likely to be turned down by Juve.

Currently, the Serie A side are holding out for €100m (£86m), but they will struggle to get that figure unless other teams enter the battle for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Dropping Liverpool’s name into the mix may excite some Reds fans but it’s probably best not to get your hopes up. Manager Jurgen Klopp has five senior centre-half options at his disposal, if you include Nat Phillips, so spending a club-record fee on another defender is extremely unlikely.
