Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was in no mood to talk about his future after he was asked about his contract situation whilst on international duty with the Netherlands.
The 30-year-old’s current deal with the Reds expires at the end of the season but, so far, there has been no suggestion that he will be signing an extension. When questioned over his future, Wijnaldum’s response was to tell the reporter to ask the club:
“I can’t say anything about that. Just ask Liverpool those questions. Don’t they answer? I cannot say anything about it, including whether or not there is talk of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Sorry.”
It doesn’t look likely that the Dutchman will stay at the moment, and fans on Twitter have called on the club to give the midfielder what he is asking for:
Shame if he goes

That says that Gini is asking for something that #LFC arent agreeing to, probably length of contract maybe?

People are excited about Thiago and Naby and rightfully so. But aside from Henderson, no other midfielder in the squad is anywhere near as versatile and durable as Gini. It will be a huge loss if he goes.

Come on reds sort Gini out with a new contract , he’s been brilliant for us #YNWA ??

Wijnaldum is a key player for the Reds, with manager Jurgen Klopp rarely leaving him out of the starting line up. It’s unlikely that the salary is the major bone of contention during negotiations but it’s possible there is an issue over the length of the contract.
The midfielder is unlikely to improve as a player now he has turned 30 and the club may be reluctant to give him a long term deal.
