Xherdan Shaqiri’s medical is underway ahead of completing his £13million move to Liverpool from Stoke City.

The Swiss international flew into Merseyside on Thursday to complete the final stage of his move to Anfield, having already agreed personal terms.

Should everything go smoothly as expected, Shaqiri is expected to be announced as a Liverpool player within the next 24 hours.

The 26-year-old will become the Reds’ third signing of the summer, after the arrival of midfielders Naby Keita and Fabinho.

Shaqiri was Stoke’s stand-out player last term, however his eight goals and seven assists in the Premier League couldn’t prevent the Potters from relegation, with Paul Lambert’s side finishing 19th with only 33 points.

Shaqiri also enjoyed a fine World Cup campaign, registering a goal and an assist as Switzerland made it to the round-of-16 for the second tournament running.
