‘Sign The Lad Lol’ ‘I’ve Heard Enough, Get Him In’ Liverpool Fans React As Club Pursue Chelsea Star Who Admits Gerrard Is His Idol

Quotes from Chelsea defender Levi Colwill admitting that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was his idol growing up have resurfaced online.

The Liverpool Echo republished excerpts from an interview in 2021 where the defender revealed his admiration for Gerrard:

“Growing up it was always Steven Gerrard, watching him, a leader. I was just amazed by him, I used to have pictures of him in my room and I always used to try and copy him before training or before I was playing.”

“I always thought I was him, dressing up as him, had the same boots that sort of thing – that was it. I just looked up to him. I wasn’t really ever a central midfielder but I always try and have the same mentality as him so I went from there.”

With Liverpool reportedly interested in signing Colwill, Reds fans on Twitter have urged the club to make a move for the player after reading the quotes:

Colwill had a successful loan spell at Brighton this season and there are some question marks about what the future may hold for the player.

Chelsea are said to be keen to keep the 20-year-old but they have six centre-backs in the first team squad, which means Colwill may not get the opportunities he would like.

Whether the centre-half would actually press to leave Stamford Bridge, though, it is up for debate. At the moment, you wouldn’t put money on him making the move to Merseyside this summer.
