Silva Responds To Claims That Everton Star Could Make Controversial £70m Liverpool Switch

Reports in Brazil earlier this week suggested that Richarlison’s agent Renato Velasco had met Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at his house to discuss a possible transfer in the summer.

It was reported that the German is an admirer of the 21-year-old, having been impressed when the forward played against the Reds in the Merseyside derby back in December.

Everton manager Marco Silva was asked about the story in yesterday’s pre-match press conference, saying:

“I had to smile. I am happy with him. He is our player and he is a really important player for us. The club made a big effort to sign with him because we were 100 per cent sure he would fit with our club. I am happy, he is happy.”

A move across Stanley Park is very rare with the last one happening in 2002 when Abel Xavier made the switch to Anfield.

Richarlison’s transfer would have have been in an entirely different league to the Portuguese defender, with a reported £70m deal having been suggested for the Brazilian.

Silva’s comments should put the rumours to bed. With Everton unwilling to sell and Liverpool’s interest in the player not having been mentioned by any other source, it’s safe to assume this transfer will not happen.
