Sky Sports Pundit Pinpoints 10M Arsenal Target As Solution To Liverpool’s Goalkeeper Problem

Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent says Liverpool should consider making a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya before the domestic transfer window shuts on Friday.

With Alisson Becker set to miss the next five weeks due to a shoulder injury, Bent feels the Reds should look to the Spaniard as an option to provide cover for the Brazilian, with Adrian having not convinced as a backup:

“For me, I think it is an issue that they need to address. But where can you find a backup goalkeeper now? We are talking about the Premier League champions so it shouldn’t be that hard but where do you get a goalkeeper that is going to be happy coming into the team to play for six weeks until Allison comes back and then you’re back on the bench.”

“It has to be a concern because they have seen firsthand what happens when you don’t have an adequate backup goalkeeper. The only one who I can think of as a potentially good back up goalkeeper is David Raya, maybe him. At the highest level now you can’t just rely on your one goalkeeper.”

Raya is actually not a bad shout at all. The Spaniard was being pursued by Arsenal with the Gunners reportedly having had a £10m offer rejected for the keeper last month. He is very capable with his feet and would certainly be more suited to Liverpool’s style of play than Adrian.

However, Brentford’s reluctance to let him go would likely prove a major stumbling block to a move going ahead. You can’t really see Liverpool paying up to £15m for a reserve goalkeeper but, considering Alisson’s recent injury record, it may be something worth looking at.
