‘So Frustrating’ ‘The Next Keita??’ Fans Vent As Liverpool Star Misses Training Ahead Of Atletico Clash

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara did not take part in an open training session ahead of the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid tomorrow.

The Spaniard has been sidelined with a calf problem since the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace last month. Manager Jurgen Klopp had claimed the player would return after the international break but fans on Twiter have been questioning the accuracy of the statement:

Thiago’s fitness record since arriving from Bayern Munich last season has been pretty appalling. The 30-year-old has missed 27 matches over the past year, and he is now almost certain to miss his 28th when the Reds take on Atletico.

Klopp and Liverpool can be rather cryptic when it comes to estimating return dates for injured players so it will be hoped that the Spanish international isn’t out for a lengthy period. There is some good news on the injury front with Curtis Jones back in contention after missing the Watford win with a groin injury, but the absence of Thiago in Madrid will be keenly felt.
