Solanke still has ‘big future’ at Liverpool insists Reds coach

Liverpool U23s coach Neil Critchley insists that youngster Dominic Solanke still has a big future at Anfield despite a difficult first season with the club. 

Solanke joined Liverpool last summer in a £3 million deal from Chelsea, however has struggled to make his mark, failing to find the net in 20 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Having recently dropped back down to the club’s U23s however, Solanke is showing signs of a return to form.

The Englishman netted a sensational hat-trick in their 4-0 Premier League 2 win at Stoke City on Sunday afternoon – a game in which regular first team stars Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez also featured, the former of whom was making a long awaited return from injury.

And following Solanke’s Man of the Match display at the weekend, U23s boss Neil Critchley says he believes the 20-year-old can still have is say in the run-in to the end of the season for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“They were terrific goals, proper striker’s goals,” said Liverpool U23s coach Neil Critchley, speaking to liverpoolfc.com.

“You could see the confidence grow in him after his first goal with the right foot.

“His second goal with his left foot was a fantastic finish across the goalkeeper. And then a lovely tap-in at the end.

“All three – Joe, Nathaniel and Dom – were great examples for our players with the way they set the tone.

“It is great to see Nathaniel back and I’m sure all three will play a big part for the first team before the end of the season.”
