Divock Origi was the unlikeliest hero in Liverpool’s victory over Merseyside rivals Everton yesterday evening.
The Belgian came off the bench to score a 96th-minute winner in the derby, securing himself a place in Anfield folklore.
An error from Jordan Pickford aided Origi as he headed in from close range, and huge numbers of fans on Twitter were hailing the 23-year-old for his winning goal.
Many referred to the moment when he was injured by Toffees defender Ramiro Funes Mori in a previous derby:
It's some sort of karmic revenge after he got savagely hacked at in that derby that time when it ended his great run of form.

Even before the goal he was better in ten minutes than Bobby in 80. Deserves a start on wednesday.

Not sure that I agree with ‘unlikeliest’ as Divock has been a previous derby day hero, but he didn’t have long to his impact today ?? YNWA

I’d be tempted to start him next game

Origi hasn’t been on the scoresheet for the Reds since May 2017, when he scored against West Ham in a 4-0 victory. He spent the whole of last season out on loan at Wolfsburg before returning to Merseyside in the summer.
However, since being brought back into the first team fold this campaign, he’s hardly featured with his appearance yesterday only his second of the season, and his first in the Premier League.
Remarkably Origi has now scored in three derby victories at Anfield, after also scoring in the 4-0 win back in April 2016, as well as the 3-1 triumph in April 2017.
