Sporting Director Reveals Liverpool Are One Of Two Clubs Tracking Norwegian Midfield Maestro

Racing Genk sporting director Dimitri Conde has confirmed that both Liverpool and Napoli are keeping tabs on midfielder Sander Berge.

The Norwegian international has impressed both clubs after coming up against them in the Champions League group stages. Jurgen Klopp praised the midfielder after the game at Anfield, and Conde says that the Reds are one of the interested clubs:

“Napoli are interested in Sander, it’s a possibility. We also know that Liverpool are also interested and [Jurgen] Klopp, after the game at Anfield [in the Champions League], complimented him on his performance.

“There are clubs in Italy who are following Berge and Napoli could be one of them, but at this stage, there are no offers on the table. From next week, things could change.”

Whether Conde is just trying to use Liverpool’s name in order to push up Berge’s asking price, it remains to be seen. The 21-year-old certainly impressed in his two games against the Merseysiders but he isn’t exactly someone who offers a great deal in the attacking third of the pitch.

The midfielder has made 102 appearances for Genk, scoring just four goals and providing four assists. Considering the number of holding midfielders Liverpool have already got, it would be a surprise if they were looking to sign another.

Saying that, though, with James Milner and Adam Lallana having contracts that expire next June, it may be an area that Klopp may look at strengthening in the summer.
