Liverpool legend Steven Nicol does not think either the Reds or Manchester United will dominate the two fixtures between the teams this month.
The two rivals are already due to face each in the Premier League on Sunday but they have also been drawn together in the fourth round of the FA Cup which will take place on Saturday week. Nicol feels the competitive nature of the games won’t see one side come out with two victories:
“When you go into it, you’ll think. ‘Oh right, we’ll win both’. But as I said, experience tells me and being involved in it many, many times no one team wins both. I guess if you ask both of these sides, which one do you want to win. I suggest that both will say the Premier League game.”
The fact that the league game is at Anfield and the cup fixture is at Old Trafford would usually have a bearing on the results, but the lack of fans means this could prove a leveller and make both matches harder to predict.
United are certainly in better form heading into the Premier League clash this weekend, but if Jurgen Klopp‘s side do come out on top, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can react, as Nicol suggests, in the cup tie.
