‘Studying Him Since September…’ Report Claims Liverpool Are Interested In Signing The New Ronaldo

Liverpool are one of the teams tracking Benfica forward Henrique Araujo, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims that the Reds have been “studying him since September” while the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also taken a keen interest.

Araujo was born in Funchal on the island of Madeira, the same place where Cristiano Ronaldo grew up. The comparisons don’t end there either, though, with the striker’s agent being Jorge Mendes, who is also the United star’s representative.

After impressing for Benfica B, the 20-year-old was handed his debut for the first team in the Allianz Cup final against rivals Sporting Lisbon back in January.

A few days later, Araujo was given his first league appearance versus Gil Vicente before getting his first goal against Vizela in mid-February.

Despite only having played five games for Benfica, Araujo is already a Portuguese Under 21 international, having five caps to his name.

It is not surprising then that Liverpool are interested in Araujo but the Corriere Dello Sport do claim that Benfica are trying to tie him down to a new contract with an “extra-large” release clause so the Reds may want to move fast if they want to get him cheaply.
