Red Bull Salzburg winger Takumi Minamino is “highly likely” to join Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to respected journalist James Pearce.
The former Liverpool Echo reporter says the existence of a £7.25m release clause means the Reds will look to seal a deal for the Japanese international next month:
Understand it’s highly likely that Minamino joins Liverpool in January. Expect it to happen. Exciting deal. #LFC

Minamino is expected to have other suitors including German and Italian clubs, as well as Manchester United, but it appears Liverpool are leading the race for the 24-year-old.
He has been in excellent form for Salzburg this season, having scored nine goals and provided 11 assists in 22 appearances. It is no flash in the pan either, having managed 14 goals and 10 assists last campaign as well.
Minamino is able to play right across the frontline. He has played on the right more often than not this season, but he has played as a left-winger as well as a number 10 in the past.
