Teams With The Most FA Cup Wins In History

The FA Cup is a tournament that needs no introduction – its magic is always on show for all to see. But who are the teams with the most FA Cup wins in history?

Ashley Cole has won the FA Cup more times than any other player, with a grand total of seven FA Cups to his name (which is as many as one of the teams on this list).

Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has scored a whopping 40 goals in the tournament – far more than any other across its history.

But where do Liverpool come in terms clubs who have won it the most? The Reds may be one of the most successful clubs in the world, but where do they stand in the overall FA Cup rankings?

Aston Villa

Aston Villa are the most successful club in the Midlands where major trophies are concerned.

As such, the Villans are also the most successful Midlands club in the history of the FA Cup.

They’ve won the tournament on seven occasions – three more than their bitter rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This season, however, they were dumped out in humiliating fashion by League Two Stevenage.

Liverpool

With eight FA Cups under their belt, Liverpool are the joint-next club on the list. Two other clubs have also won the coveted trophy on eight occasions.

The Reds are the most recent winners of the FA Cup, defeating Chelsea in the final on penalties.

It was the first time Liverpool had won the FA Cup since their dramatic victory in 2006, when they overcame a valiant West Ham team in what is referred to as the “Gerrard Final”.

Reds legend Stevie G netted an injury time equaliser from long range to force extra-time. After a tense extra 30 minutes it needed Pepe Reina’s heroics in goal for Liverpool to win on penalties 3-1, as Gerrard converted his spot-kick and lifted the trophy for the Reds.

Tottenham Hotspur

Like Liverpool, Tottenham have also won the FA Cup on eight occasions. Despite their historical success, they have not laid claim to the trophy since 1991.

Spurs fans will not need reminding that they have not won a major trophy since 2008, when they beat Chelsea 2-1 in the League Cup final.

Could 2023 finally be the year where they break their 14 year trophy duck?

Chelsea

Chelsea are next on the list, also with eight FA Cup final victories but it is no longer a target for Graham Potter this campaign.

In 2010, they became one of a handful of teams to have won both the FA Cup and the League Cup in the same season.

The Blues won’t be winning it this year, however. In the third round, they were comprehensively trounced 4-0 by Manchester City.

Manchester United

Liverpool’s bitter rivals, Manchester United, are one of just two clubs who have won the FA Cup on more occasions than the Reds.

In total, Manchester United have collected 12 FA Cup trophies across their history.

Despite this, it has now been some time since Manchester United last won the trophy.

Their most recent FA Cup triumph was in 2016, where they beat Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace in the final.

Arsenal

Arsenal top the list with a total of 14 FA Cups. They’ve also won the FA Cup in back-to-back seasons twice – once from 2001/02 to 2002/03 and again from 2013/14 to 2014/15.

Mikel Arteta’s team have been firing on all cylinders this year. Could they add to their extensive collection of FA Cups this season?

We will see which club can add another FA Cup win to their haul of trophies.
