Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino’s suggestion that Liverpool should consider a move for Olivier Giroud in the summer has not gone down well with supporters.
The 34-year-old scored a magnificent goal to secure a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, Cascarino suggested he could be a good option to provide competition for Roberto Firmino.
However, most fans on Twitter are not in favour of Liverpool pursuing Giroud with the former Arsenal forward’s age and limited mobility both being cited as reasons why the Reds wouldn’t sign him:
Thanks, but no thanks…

As a back up option for when we need to change things up against the low block – would take him in.

It is an interesting suggestion by Cascarino, regardless of how likely the transfer would be in reality. Giroud’s aerial presence would give manager Jurgen Klopp another option off the bench, and his link-up play would certainly compliment the likes of Salah and Mane. If he is available on a free, you can’t completely rule out a short-term deal for the player.
