“That Can’t Happen…” Merson Makes Transfer Claim After Hearing About Chelsea’s Plans For £70M Liverpool Target

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has urged Chelsea not to sell Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount this summer.

The England international will have one year remaining on his contract at the end of the season and the Blues may consider selling him if an agreement over an extension can’t be reached. However, Merson says offloading the midfielder would be a mistake:

“One of the players who is supposed to be going is Mason Mount, he’s one of their best players, that can’t happen in my opinion.”

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Mount is a priority target for manager Jurgen Klopp, who is keen to snap up the 24-year-old as part of his plans to reinforce the midfield.

Even so, it has been reported that Chelsea may demand as much as £70m for Mount, which is an asking price that may put off the Reds from making an offer anyway.

It is also thought that Mount’s preference would be to remain at Stamford Bridge so, while Liverpool may be keen on securing his signature, there are plenty of obstacles in the way of it happening currently.
