Ex-Liverpool fullback Stephen Warnock has called on his former club to make a bid for Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
The 31-year-old, who has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season, has less than twelve months to run on his contract at the Emirates and Warnock thinks the Reds should take advantage of the situation:
“If I was Jurgen Klopp, I’d be going for him with a year left on his contract, and you’re wanting a goalscorer who can either come off the bench or play on a regular basis.”
“He will challenge the front three natural, he doesn’t need time to settle, you know he’s proven, he knows the manager and the manager knows what he’s about.”
Supporters on Twitter are in agreement with Warnock, although they don’t think it will happen:
ngl that's a decent shout

This is a valid shout imo. The only downside would be adding another African to an attack that would already be bare bones during an Afcon tournament.

@LFC wont buy a finished article player to warm the bench. Not even for free.

He’s better than Firmino without a doubt and would be a great signing

@bergkamps1touch I'd be very happy if this happens

Only if he took a wage cut

Doesn’t fit the script, he’s too old and would want too much money

I'd take him to be honest

Great call??

No more than 20 million and I’d take him 100% think it would fit like a glove,

Warnock certainly makes some good points but signing Aubameyang would go against the Merseyside club’s transfer policy.
Although the Gabonese international would be available for a knockdown price, Liverpool simply do not sign players above the age of 30.
If Aubameyang were to run down his contract and he was still available next summer on a free transfer, the Reds could reconsider, although even then it’s likely the club would be targeting younger forwards who have potential to improve in the future.
