“That’s Smart Business…” Glen Johnson Claims Liverpool Would Be Tempted To Buy 34.4M Rated German Ace

Ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes his former club would be interested in signing Serge Gnabry if he is available for a knockdown price.

The German international has a year left on his contract with Bayern Munich but talks over an extension have not gone well, and there are reports that he could be offloaded for €40m (£34.4m) this summer. Johnson thinks the Reds would be tempted if the winger is put up for sale:

“I really like him. I believe that’s a deal that Liverpool would look at more seriously because of the price and because of his age. That move would tick their criteria much more. That’s smart business.”

Recent reports have suggested that Liverpool will complete their transfer business for the summer by signing Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen, but it’s very likely that they will be keeping a keen eye on Gnabry’s situation.

It was suggested back in February that the Merseyside club and Manchester United were tracking the 26-year-old, while former side Arsenal have also been credited with an interest more recently.

It could be the case that Liverpool will decide to wait and see whether he is available on a free transfer. Gnabry could sign a pre-contract agreement with another team as soon as January.
